Alcohol Degrades Sleep in 2 Ways

Alcohol has a huge impact on sleep, even in small amounts, like one glass of wine or two to unwind after dinner.

It can disturb your sleep in two sneaky ways- it decreases REM dreaming phase sleep so you ‘crash’ into the next stage of sleep and it also decreases your total sleep time.

REM sleep is important for helping us consolidate and process the events of the day and is thought to be important in mental and emotional health (and hence resilience).

Total sleep time, the total amount of sleep you get at night, is a big factor for feeling rested in the morning.
